Consisting chiefly of letters from various authors re Long's proposed publication of an anthology of South Carolina writers, manuscript of a one-act play by Long, obituary notices and tributes; including printed program, 19 Apr. 1927, program of the the Erskine Players' presentation of "Cow's Milk, A Tragi-comedy of South Carolina tenant life"; manuscript, [ca. 1922], of "Cows's Milk"; letter, 26 Mar. 1940, from Chapman J. Milling, Columbia, S.C., identifying poems suitable for inclusion in Long's anthology; letter, 15 Apr. [1940], from Archibald Rutledge, McClellanville, S.C., authorizing the inclusion of "anything I have written"; letter, 25 Apr. 1940, from Julia Peterkin, Lang Syne Plantation, granting permission to use a chapter from Roll, Jordan, Roll; letter, 22 June 1940, from Louise Manning Crossland, Bennettsville, S.C., stating that she was sending several of her poems; and letter, 28 June [1940], from Mary Hume Mills, Hartsville, S.C., forwarding a selection of her poems. Also includes 2 unbound volumes, ca. 1930, "The Social and Cultural Background of Russell's Magazine," thesis written for M.A. degree and later published as Russell's Magazine as an Expression of Ante-Bellum South Carolina Culture, 1932; and 2 manuscript volumes, [ca. 1940], of Long's unfinished anthology, "Readings in South Carolina Literature."
